Client – Holy Cross Laundry
Banyo, 2024
Client Name: Holy Cross Laundry Location: Banyo, QLD Project Completion: June 2024 Annual solar production: 619.9 MWh
Holy Cross Laundry is Australia’s longest-serving commercial laundry, with over 130 years of experience providing high-quality laundry and cleaning services to the health and aged care sectors. Established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1889, Holy Cross Laundry is not just about service; it’s about community impact. Their mission is to offer inclusive employment opportunities, particularly for people with disabilities and those who face barriers to employment. This commitment to social responsibility is matched by their dedication to environmental sustainability, making them an important and valued client for DS Energy.
THE CHALLENGES
Holy Cross Laundry operates on a significant scale, processing 18,000 kilograms of linen annually. This high level of production demands a substantial amount of energy, with an estimated 1,395 MWh of electricity consumed annually before the implementation of solar power. The challenge was to reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs with a clean and renewable energy source that fit in with their sustainability management framework, while continuing to meet their energy demands and commitment to community support.
THE SOLUTION
To address these challenges, DS Energy installed a 437.95 kW solar system at Holy Cross Laundry’s Banyo facility. This system features 922 Astronergy CHSM60N(DG)F-HC-475W panels, designed to optimise energy production and efficiency. The solar system is projected to produce 619.9 MWh of clean, renewable energy annually, significantly reducing the facility’s reliance on grid power.
THE RESULT
The implementation of this solar power system has delivered substantial and far-reaching benefits for Holy Cross Laundry. The solar installation is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 433 tonnes annually, making a significant contribution to a cleaner and more sustainable environment. In addition to the environmental impact, the system is projected to generate an estimated $109,782 in annual energy savings, demonstrating the financial advantages of adopting solar power.
Holy Cross Laundry was particularly pleased with the service provided by DS Energy. The project was completed on time, within the defined scope, and without any hidden costs, which added to their overall satisfaction. This seamless execution reflects DS Energy’s commitment to delivering high-quality solutions that meet clients’ expectations.
The success of this project not only supports Holy Cross Laundry’s environmental objectives but also reinforces their broader mission of financial sustainability and community empowerment. By partnering with DS Energy, Holy Cross Laundry has taken a significant step toward enhancing their operational efficiency and sustainability, enabling them to continue their important work with an even stronger focus on creating a positive impact.
“The service that DS Energy gave us throughout the whole process was one of the best I’ve been involved in. The project was scoped, the project was priced, there was no hidden extras. Everything went according to the planned timeframe.”
